Preventive health care is the Fourth chapter of Astanga Hridaya, known as Roganutpadaniya Adhyaya. It explains the process of adapting the body to its natural symptoms to reduce the accumulation of toxic materials and the onset of the disease process.
Meaning of the name of the chapter: Roganutpadaneeya = Roga + Anutpadaneeya.
Roga means disease
Utpadana means production. Anutpadana means preventing production.
Then, Roga Anutpadaneeya means – prevention of the disease’s onset.

Adharaneeya Vega means Natural urges that must not be denied.

- Adhovata – flatus (fart)
- Vit – faeces
- Mutra – urine
- Kshavatu – sneeze
- Trut – thirst
- Kshudha – hunger
- Nidra – sleep
- Kasa – cough
- Shramashvasa – breathing on exertion
- Jrumbha – Yawning
- Ashru – tears, weeping
- Chardi – vomiting
- Retas – semen
These natural urges must not be suppressed by force.
अधोवातरोध Adhovata avarodha – adverse effects of suppressing flatus. : Fart

adhovaatrodh Adhovata Avarodha means negative effects of reducing flatus
Adverse effects if you dont fart / pass Gas / Flatulence
In the absence of the desire for flatus (farting) and on an ongoing basis, one is more prone to
Abdominal bloating and tumors,
Udavarta – gaseous distension of the abdomen
Ruk – abdominal pain Klama – fatigue, exhaustion without doing anything to cause blockage of constipation, flatus and difficulties in urination, loss of vision.
Insufficiency of digestion conditions that affect the upper part of the stomach and the heart
The reason is that the Vata is blocked in the intestine, preventing it from causing vomiting. In the rectum and intestines the natural movement that occurs in Vata can be upwards. Due to suppression of the flatus, Vata is inclined upwards and creates all the issues. Most of the problems that are explained are caused by Vata imbalance.
Purisha Vega Dharana / Bad effects of suppressing the urge to defecate – Shakrut Nirodhaja Roga

Pindikodveshta – Twisting pain in muscles in the calf. Pratishyaya – running nose
Shiroruja – headache
Urdhvavayu – an upward motion that originates from Vata, Parikarta – Itching sensation in Anal region Hridayasya Uparodhana – stiffness type feeling in the chest region. Mukhena Vit pravrutti – foul breath, feces vomiting.
The negative effects of the suppression of urine: Mutravegadharana

Angabhanga – body pain,
Ashmari : Urinary calculi (Reanal Stone)
The pain in the penis and bladder region.
The diseases mentioned in faeces and flatus may be present in this condition.
Treatment for suppressed flatus, urine, and feces

To treat the diseases arising from suppression of flatus, feces, and urine, the following should be given.
Varti – Rectal and urethral suppositories
Abhyanga – Oil massage Avagaha – tub bath, sitz bath
Svedana – sweating therapy, sudation therapy
Bastikarma – rectal enema
Annapaanam ca vidbhedhi – all food that helps to induce purgation should be administered.
Treatment of Mutravegadharana / Treatment of ailments caused by inhibition of the urge to urinate

In conditions caused by urinary obstruction, Drinking ghee before lunch is a good idea. Ghee consumption in the highest dosage at the time of digestion and meal between midday and night is also recommended.
This method of drinking large doses of Ghee is known as Avapidaka Sneha.
Udgaravega dharana / Suppression of Belching

Belching suppression can trigger :
Aruchi – Anorexia and lack of desire to eat.
Kampa Tremors Vibandha – constipation
Hrudayo Raso – a stiffening sensation in the chest area Adhmana – gaseous distension, bloating abdomen Kasa – cold, cough
Hidhma – – hiccup
The treatment of udgaravegadharana is similar to the treatment to reduce hiccups.

Suppression of Sneezing

Shiro Arti – headache
Indriya Daurbalya – weakening of the sensual organs Manyasthamba – Neck stiffness

Treatment of Sneezing suppression :

Trishna Vega Dharana / The suppression of thirst

Adverse effects if you don’t drink water
The suppression of thirst will cause
Shosha – Emaciation
Angasada – debility, weakness
Badhirya – deafness
Sammoha is a loss of awareness, a delusion called Bhrama Hrut Gada – cardiac disorder
Treatment of Trishna Vega Dharana

Any procedure that is cool in nature, such as drinking cold water, taking cold bathing, etc., is highly recommended.
Kshudha Vega Dharana / suppression of hunger

Adverse effects if you dont eat when you’re hungry
Angabhanga – bodyache, myalgia
Aruchi – Anorexia and lack of desire to eat. Glani – depression
Karshya – emaciation, weight loss
Colic, abdominal pain
Bhrama – delusion
Treatment of Kshudha Vega Dharana :

Light meals that contain oily substances (such as Ghee) that are warm or hot in nature. (Light, Oily & Hot)
Notice: Fasting results in lower digestion power and increased Vata. If you consume a huge meal following a long fast and then, it can reduce the power of digestion. Therefore, a light food intake is recommended.
Ghee, an oily substance, helps soothe the gastric mucosa. Warm or hot food can help keep Agni (digestion strength).
Nidra Vega Dharana / Sleep suppression

What are the adverse effects if you don’t sleep on time :
Sleep suppression can be a cause of insomnia.
Moha – delusion
Murdha Akshi Gourava – heaviness of eyes and head Alasya Laziness and insanity
Jrumbhika – yawning
Angabhanga – bodyache, myalgia
Treatment of Nidra Vega Dharana :

Who is not eligible for treatment? / which patient should not be treated?

People who experience severe thirst and pain and those who are accustomed to suppressing urges due to the Vata and other Doshas often become contaminated due to unsuitable activity, and the treatment won’t be effective.
Ksheena – Who is extremely dehydrated and vomits feces, a condition that is getting out of hand.
The root cause of all diseases according to ayurveda

All illnesses are due to
Vegodeerana – the initiation of the urges by forcefully knowingly without its manifestation naturally.
Vegadhaarana – Repression of naturally-triggered urges.
For the common ailments that result from these causes, specific treatments have been researched to date, affecting the nature of Vata that is the most affected. Thus, the symptoms that arise from the suppression of natural urges may be treated through diet and treatments that open the channels of Vata and aid in restoring Vata’s natural direction.

In the event of accumulating these toxic substances, it could result in their aggravation, and eventually, could result death.
Effectiveness of Panchakarma treatment (Shodhana Therapy)

The Doshas balanced through Medicines, Langhana (fasting and so on) along with Pachana (digestion stimulating) therapies can be worse again.
But, Doshas eliminated through Shodhna (Panchakarma) treatment are not likely to be aggravated again.

Following a proper Panchakarma process at the right time, the rejuvenation treatment (Rasayana therapy) is recommended using appropriate Aphrodisiacs, tonics, and tonics.
Treatment for people who undergo the Panchakarma treatment but are tired

आगन्तुज रोगा: – Traumatic diseases caused by external factors: Agantuja Roga

The diseases caused by Bhuta (evil spirits bacteria, parasites, insects, and microbes of this kind) and visa (poisons)
air (hurricane and storm) and agni (fire and electricity) radiation, fire, etc.) Kshata (injury or wounds, etc.),
Bhanga (fracture of bone), and so on. Also, those caused by raga (desire, lust), dvesha (hatred), Bhaya (fear), etc. They are all known as Agantu illnesses that result from external triggers.

When to do Panchakarma treatment : शोधन समय / Shodhana time

The accumulation of Doshas caused by winter need to be eliminated in Vasanta (spring) – Vamana karma
This resulting from Summer (Greeshma) must be thrown out in Abhrakala to Varsha Ritu – the rainy season – Basti Karma
The effects of the rainy season are to be gotten rid of, that is a result of rainy season should be elimination Ghnatyaya (Sharad – the autumn season) – Virechana Karma.
