Tarpana and Putapaka are the two major Ayurveda treatments for eye health. The treatments Tarpana and Putapaka and their respective indications, uses, etc. This chapter is the 24th in Ashtanga Hrudaya Sutrasthana, written by Acharya Vagbhata and his son Vaidyapathi Simhagupta. The chapter’s title is Tarpana Putapaka Vidhi Adhyaya. Tarpana, as well as Putapaka, refers to the two different methods for treating eyes.

Tarpana procedure
The patient must undergo head purification – Nasya treatment, and cleansing of the body through Vamana or Virechana.

Procedure
The wall is built using a paste from Yava (barley) and Masha (black grams) around the eye socket. It resembles an eye socket with a height of 2 Angula.
To keep the eyelids shut, medicated Ghee with medicinal properties, made liquefied by heating it in a hot water bed, must be dumped into the well to the level of the tips of the eyelashes.

If your eyes are tired, dry, stiff, rough, injured.
in patients with an increase of Vata in patients with an increase of Vata Pitta;
If there is an irregularity, asymmetry, or loss of eye Lashes,

Tarpana Time – Matrakala

100 – to treat the eyelid diseases Vartma eyelids
300 – for diseases of Sandhi fornices
500 – for the conditions of Sita Sclera
700 – for diseases of Asita cornea
800 – for diseases of Drishti retina, pupil, etc. 1000 – to treat the disease Adhimanta, to treat the condition that is caused by Vata imbalance
600 – to treat diseases due to Pitta,
500 – for a healthy person and to treat diseases caused by Kapha imbalance. This is the best time to consider keeping the medication.
Following the time limit, the Ghee must be removed via an opening in the canthus’s outer edge. The person is required to be provided with Dhumapana (herbal smoke)
The individual is advised not to gaze at the bright sky or other objects.

Juice should be Lukewarm to the Snehana and Lekhana and cool for Prasadana.
After these Snehana and Lekhana kinds, Dhumpana (medicated smoking) is recommended. 19

Each of the Tarpana and Putapaka treatments should not be administered to people unsuitable for Nasya.
The patient who has had Tarpana and Putapaka treatments should follow healthy food and exercise for double the number of days of Nasya therapy. At night, he must bind the eyes using an eye pad that is adorned with flowers such as Malati, and Mallika (Jasmine varieties).21
All efforts must be put into strengthening the eyes through adhering to Nasya, Anjana, Tarpana, etc., as once vision goes away, the various kinds of things that exist in the world will be one type of thing dark. 22
