Tarpana and Putapaka are the two major Ayurveda treatments for eye health. The treatments Tarpana and Putapaka and their respective indications, uses, etc. This chapter is the 24th in Ashtanga Hrudaya Sutrasthana, written by Acharya Vagbhata and his son Vaidyapathi Simhagupta. The chapter’s title is Tarpana Putapaka Vidhi Adhyaya. Tarpana, as well as Putapaka, refers to the two different methods for treating eyes.

600 – to treat diseases due to Pitta,
500 – for a healthy person and to treat diseases caused by Kapha imbalance. This is the best time to consider keeping the medication.

Temperature of Drug

Juice should be Lukewarm to the Snehana and Lekhana and cool for Prasadana.

After these Snehana and Lekhana kinds, Dhumpana (medicated smoking) is recommended. 19

The signs and symptoms that indicate proper, inadequate, excessive Putapaka therapy are the same as those mentioned in Tarpana therapy. 20
