Mutraghata Pratisedha – Treatment of the suppression of urine – Sushrutasamhita Uttaratantra Chapter 58

अष्टपञ्चाशत्तमोऽध्यायः अथातो मूत्राघातप्रतिषेधमध्यायं व्याख्यास्यामः, यथोवाच भगवान् धन्वन्तरिः ॥ १ ॥

Now we shall discourse on the chapter which deals with the symptoms and medical treatment of the suppression of urine (Mutraghata Pratisedha). 1.

वातकुण्डलिकाऽष्ठीला वातबस्तिस्तथैव च । मूत्रातीतः सजठरो मूत्रोत्सङ्गः क्षयस्तथा ॥ २ ॥

मूत्रग्रन्थिर्मूत्रशुक्रमुष्णवातस्तथैव च । मूत्रौकसादौ द्वौ चापि रोगा द्वादश कीर्तिताः ॥ ३ ॥

The disease is of twelvel kinds viz., Vata-kundalika, Asthila, Vata-basti, Mutratita, (Mutra) Jathara, Mutrotsanga, (Mutra) Ksaya, Mutra-granthi, Mutra-sukra, Usna-vata and the two forms of (viz. Kaphaja and pitta) Mutraukasada.2-3.

Symptoms of Vata Kundalika

वा वायुरन्तरमाश्रितः । मूत्रं चरति संगृह्य विगुणः कुण्डलीकृतः ॥ ४ ॥ सृजेदल्पाल्पमथवा सरुजस्कं शनैः शनैः । वातकुण्डलिकां तंतु व्याधिं विद्यात् सुदारुणम् ॥ ५ ॥

Symptoms of Vata-Kundalika— The bodily Vayu deranged and aggravated through an extremely parched condition or through the voluntary repression of an urging towards micturition affects and retains the urine in the bladder, causing it to revolve in eddies within the cavity of that organ. It allows the urine to pass in small quantity or (even) to dribble out in drops with pain. This disease is known as Vatakundalika and is of a violent type. 4-5.

रौक्ष्याद् वेगविघाताद्

1. Madhava reads thirteen different kinds of this disease. He reads only one kind of Mutra-sada and adds Vid-vighata and Basti kundala.

Vatasthila

शकृन्मार्गस्य बस्तेश्च वायुरन्तरमाश्रितः । अष्ठीलावद्धनं ग्रन्थिं करोत्यचलमुन्नतम् ॥ ६॥

विण्मूत्रानिलसङ्गश्च तत्राध्मानञ्च जायते । वेदना च परा बस्तौ वाताष्ठीलेति तां विदुः ॥ ७॥

Vatasthila – The deranged and aggravated bodily Vayu incarcerated or lodged in the region lying between the bladder and the anus gives rise to a thick lumpy tumour like a pebble (Asthila), which is hard and non-shifting in its character, producing suppression of stool, urine and flatus, distension of the abdomen and pain in the bladder. It is known as Vatasthiila. 6-7.

Vata Basti

वेगं विधारयेद् यस्तु मूत्रस्याकुशलो नरः । निरुणद्धि मुखं तस्य बस्तेर्बस्तिगतोऽनिलः ॥ ८॥ मूत्रसङ्गो भवेत् तेन बस्तिकुक्षिनिपीडितः । वातबस्तिः स विज्ञेयो व्याधिः कृच्छ्रप्रसाधनः ॥ ९ ॥

Vata – Basti — The bodily Vayu in the locality, aggravated by a voluntary repression of a propulsion to urination enters the bladder of the ignorant person doing the same and also obstructs the orifice of that organ causing retention of urine with an oppressive pain in the bladder and loins. The disease in known as Vata-basti and it is extremely hard to cure. 8-9.

Mutratita

वेगं सन्धार्य मूत्रस्य यो भूयः स्रष्टमिच्छति । तस्य नाभ्येति यदि वा कथञ्चित् संप्रवर्तते ॥ १० ॥

प्रवाहतो मन्दरुजमल्पमल्पं पुनः पुनः । मूत्रातीतन्तु तं विद्यान्मूत्रवेगविघातजम् ॥ ११ ॥

Mutratita – The urine of a person voluntarily suppressing it does not flow out at all or only dribbles out in drops or in scanty jets with slight pain, when he strains. The disease is called Mutratita. 10-11.

Mutra jathara

मूत्रस्य विहते वेगे तदुदावर्तहेतुना । अपानः कुपितो वायुरुदरं पूरयेद् भृशम् ॥ १२ ॥

नाभेरधस्तादाध्मानं जनयेत् तीव्रवेदनम् । तं मूत्रजठरं विद्यादध: स्रोतोनिरोधन ( क )म् ॥ १३ ॥

Mutra jathara – The vital Apana Vayu is deranged and aggravated by the Udavarta produced by a checked desire for urination and completely fills up and distends, with an excruciating pain in the abdomen below the umbilicus. The disease is called Mutra jathara and the lower orifices¹ (viz. the anus and the urethra) are obstructed in this disease. 12-13.

Mutrotsanga

बस्तौ वाप्यथवा नाले मणौ वा यस्य देहिनः । मूत्रं प्रवृत्तं सज्जेत सरक्तं वा प्रवाहतः ॥ १४ ॥

स्त्रवेच्छनैरल्पमल्पं सरुजं वाऽथ नीरुजम् । विगुणानिलजो व्याधिः मूत्रोत्सङ्गः स संज्ञितः ॥ १५ ॥

Mutrotsanga – The disease in which the stream of urine gliding along the bladder and urethra is gradually emitted in scanty jets or runs down the exterior surface of the glans penis with blood, whether with or without pain, is called Mutrotsanga (lit gliding urination) and is an outcome of the deranged and aggravated action of the bodily Vayu. 14-15.

Mutra ksaya and Mutra granthi

रुक्षस्य क्लान्तदेहस्य बस्तिस्थौ पित्तमारुतौ । सदाहवेदनं कृच्छ्रं कुर्यातां मूत्रसंक्षयम् ॥ १६ ॥ अभ्यन्तरे बस्तिमुखे वृत्तोऽल्पः स्थिर एव च । वेदनावानति सदा मूत्रमार्गनिरोधनः ॥ १७ ॥ जायते सहसा यस्य ग्रन्थिरश्मरिलक्षणः । स मूत्रग्रन्थिरित्येवमुच्यते वेदनादिभिः ॥ १८ ॥

Mutra-ksaya and Mutra-granthi — The deranged and aggravated Pitta and Vayu in the bladder of an extremely fatigued person already sufering from an extreme parchedness of organism, find lodgement in the bladder producing, in concert, a sensation of local burning and pain attended with a scanty accumulation of urine in the cavity of the organ (lit. absence of micturition). The disease which can be made to yeild only to the virtue of therapeutic agents with the greatest difficulty is called Mutra-ksaya. A small round painful fixed Granthi suddenly occuring on the interior side (of the orifice) of the bladder and exhibiting by its characteristic pain, etc. all the symptoms of the presence of gravels (urinary calculii) in that organ, and which stands completely obstructing its orifice without letting out a single drop of urine or admits only of its being dribbled out in scanty jets, is called-Mutra-granthi. 16-18.

Mutra sukra and Usna vata

मैथुनं प्रत्युपस्थितमूत्रस्तु तस्य मूत्रयुतं रेतः सहसा योऽभिनन्दति । पुरस्ताद् वाऽपि मूत्रस्य पश्चाद् वाऽपि कदाचन । भस्मोदकप्रतीकाशं मूत्रशुक्रं तदुच्यते सम्प्रवर्तते ॥ १९ ॥ ॥ २० ॥व्यायामाध्वातपैः पित्तं बस्तिं प्राप्यानिलावृतम् । बस्तिं मेढूं गुदञ्चैव प्रदहन् स्त्रावयेदधः ॥ २१ ॥ मूत्रं हारिद्रमथवा सरक्तं रक्तमेव वा । कृच्छ्रात् प्रवर्तते जन्तोरुष्णवातं वदन्ति तम् ॥ २२ ॥

Mutra-sukra and Usna-vata – A person visiting a woman with the presence of a strong urging towards urination and by voluntarily repressing the same is found to pass urine highly charged with semen which is sometimes seen to precede or follow the discharge of urine. The urine in this case resembles the washing or solution of ashes in colour. The disease is called Mutra-sukra (lit. semen-charged urine). The disease in which the Pitta of a person deranged by such factors as over-fatiguing, physical exercise, exposure to the sun, or arduous pedestrian journey, gets into his baldder completely wrapped in the deranged Vayu of his body, and produces an intense burning sensation in his bladder, penis and the anus, setting up a painful flow of a dark yellow or blood-streaked urine or of blood alone through the urethra instead, is designated as Usna-vata. 19-22.

Two kinds of Mutraukasada

विशदं पीतकं मूत्रं सदाहं बहुलं तथा । शुष्कं भवति यच्चापि रोचनाचूर्णसन्निभम् ॥ २३ ॥

मूत्रौकसादं तं विद्याद्रोगं पित्तकृतं बुधः । पिच्छिलं संहतं श्वेतं तथा कृच्छ्र प्रवर्तनम् ॥ २४ ॥

शुष्कं भवति यच्चापि शङ्खचूर्णप्रपाण्डुरम् । मूत्रौकसादं तं विद्यादामयं द्वादशं कफात् ॥ २५ ॥

Two kinds of Mutraukasada – A nonslimy and thick flow of yellow-coloured urine attended with a burning sensation and leaving a sediment like powdered Rocana when dried, is called (Pittaja ) Mutraukasada. The wise ascribe the origin of this disease to the action of the deranged Pitta. The type in which a pale sediment resembling the powders of conch-shell is deposited when the urine is dried and in which the flow is painful and the urine is slimy, thick and white, should be attributed to the action of the deranged Kapha. It is but another variety of the disease described immediately before. 23-25.

General Treatment of Mutraghata

कषायकल्कसपषि भक्ष्यान् लेहान् पयांसि च ।cक्षारमध्वा ( द्या) सवस्वेदान् बस्तींश्चोत्तरसंज्ञितान् ॥ २६ ॥

विदध्यान्मतिमांस्तत्र विधिञ्चाश्मरिनाशनम्। मूत्रोदावर्तयोगांश्च कार्त्स्न्येनात्र प्रयोजयेत् ॥ २७ ॥

General Treatment – Medicinal decoctions, Kalkas (medicated) Ghritas, various kinds of) foods, laxatives preparations of milk, alkalies, honey, asavas, fomentation and Uttara-basti should be employed according to their indications in coping with an attack of any of the a foresaid ailments. An intelligent physician shall resort, in these cases, to measures which are efficacious in cases of Asmari or shall employ in their entirety the medicinal compounds which have been described as curative under the treatment of urinary Udavarta. 26-27.

Mutra-krcchra

कल्कमेर्वारुबीजानामक्षमात्रं ससैन्धवम् । धान्याम्लयुक्तं पीत्वैव मूत्रकृच्छात् प्रमुच्यते ॥ २८ ॥

सुरां सौवर्चलवतीं मूत्रकृच्छ्री पिबेन्नरः | मधुमांसोपदंशं वा पिबेद् वाऽप्यथ गौडिकम् ॥ २९ ॥

पिबेत् कुङ्कुमकर्षं वा मधूदकसमायुतम् । रात्रिपर्युषितं प्रातस्तथा सुखमवाप्नुयात् ॥ ३० ॥

दाडिमाम्लां युतां मुख्यामेलाजीरकनागरैः । पीत्वा सुरां सलवणां मूत्रकृच्छ्रात् प्रमुच्यते ॥ ३१ ॥

A case of Mutra-krcchra would be relieved by the use of pasted Ervaru-seeds and Saindhava weighing an Aksa and taken with the fermented paddy-boilings. A person afflicted with Mutra-krcchra should take wine (prepared from Pista or Pasted rice) in combination with Souvarcala-salt, or he should take wine prepared from honey by biting meat at intervals, or take any wine made from treacle. In the alternative, a Karsa measure of Kumkuma should be kept saturated with honey and water during the night and this should be taken in the morning, whereby the patient would be relieved of the trouble (of Mutra-Krcchra). By taking the principal wine (viz., that prepared from Pista or pasted rice) with salt, powdered Ela, Jiraka and Nagara and saturated with the acid juice of pomegranade one would get rid of Mutra-krcchra. 28-31.

पृथक्पर्ण्यादिवर्गस्य मूलं गोक्षुरकस्य च । अर्द्धप्रस्थेन तोयस्य पचेत् क्षीरं चतुर्गुणम् ॥ ३२ ॥ क्षीरावशिष्टं तच्छीतं सिताक्षौद्रयुतं पिबेत् । नरो मारुतपित्तोत्थ-मूत्राघातनिवारणम् ॥ ३३ ॥ निष्पीड्य वाससा सम्यग्वर्चो रासभवाजिनाम् । रसस्य कुडवन्तस्य ॥ पिबेन्मूत्ररुजापहम् ॥ ३४

Half a Prastha measure of water with four times as much of milk together with the drugs of the Prthak – Parnyadi (Vidari-gandhadi) group and Gokssura-roots should be kept boiling till all the water is evaporated. A person suffering from an attack of Mutra-ghata due to the concerted action of deranged Vayu and Pitta should use this medicated milk, when cooled, with sugar and honey. The dung of an ass or of a horse should be squeezed through a piece of linen and a Kudava measure of this expressed liquid should be taken for the cure of an attack of painful urination. 32-34.

मुस्ताभयादेवदारु-मूर्वाणां मधुकस्य च । पिबेदक्षसमं कल्कं मूत्रदोषनिवारणम् ॥ ३५ ॥

अभयामलकाक्षाणां कल्कं बदरसम्मितम् । अम्भसाऽलवणोपेतं पिबेन्मूत्ररुजापहम् ॥ ३६ ॥

उदुम्बरसमं कल्कं द्राक्षाया जलसंयुतम् । पिबेत् पर्युषितं रात्रौ शीतं मूत्ररुजापहम् ॥ ३७॥

निदिग्धिकायाः स्वरसं पिबेत् कुडवसम्मितम् । मूत्रदोषहरं कल्य(ल्क ) मथवा क्षौद्रसंयुतम् ॥ ३८ ॥

An Aksa measure of the compound made by pasting Musta, Abhaya, Deva-daru, Murva and Yasti-madhu shuld be taken with the decoction of Abhaya, Amalaka and Aksa (Vibhitaka) together weighing a Badara measure should be taken with little salt and water for getting. relief in cases of painful urination. An Udumbara measure of Draksa should be kept saturated in water for the whole night and this cold infusion should be taken (in the morning) for getting relief in cases of painful urination. A Kudava measure of the expressed juice of Nidigdhika or the Kalka of the same should be taken with honey as a relief from the urinary complaints. 35-38.

भवेज्जन्तुर्मूत्रदोषरुजातुरः ॥ ३९ ॥ पिबेन्नरः । प्रपीड्यामलकानान्तु रसं कुडवसम्मितम् । पीत्वागदी धात्रीफलरसेनैवं सूक्ष्मैला वा पिष्टाऽथवा सुशीतेन शालितण्डुलवारिणा ॥ ४० ॥ तालस्य तरुणं मूलं त्रपुसस्वरसं तथा । श्वेतं कर्कटकञ्चैव प्रातस्तु ( स्तं ) पयसा पिबेत् । शृतं वा मधुरैः क्षीरं सर्पिर्मिश्रं पिबेन्नरः । मूत्रदोषविशुद्धयर्थं तथैवाश्मरिनाशनम् ॥ ४१ ॥

By taking a Kudava measure of the expressed juice of Amalaka, a person suffering from uninary complaints would get rid of his troubles. In the alternative, the patient should drink a potion consisting of powdered small Ela, dissolved in the expressed juice of Amalaka (and mixed with honey), or he should take a paste of the tender roots of Tala (palm) with cold rice-washing. The expressed juice of Trapusa and white Karkataka should also be prescribed to be taken with milk in the morning. In the alternative a person should take a potion consisting of milk duly boiled with the drugs of the Madhura group mixed with clarified butter as the compound is possessed of excellent diuretic properties and tends to remove the Asmari troubles as well. 39-41.

बलाश्वदंष्ट्राक्रौञ्चास्थि-कोकिलाक्षकतण्डुलान् । देवदारु सचित्रकम् ॥ ४२ ॥ शतपर्वकमूलञ्च अक्षबीजञ्च सुरया कल्कीकृत्य पिबेन्नरः । मूत्रदोषविशुद्धयर्थं तथैवाश्मरिनाशनम् ॥ ४३ ॥

A compound consisting of Bala, Svadamstra, seeds of lotus (Krounca)’, Tandula (i.e. seeds) of Kokilaksa’, roots of sata-parvaka, Devadaru, Chitraka and stone of Aksa, pasted together and dissolved in wine should be taken by a person, under the circumstances in as much as it removes the defects of urine and eliminates the gravels from the bladder. 42-43.

पाटलाक्षारमाहृत्य सप्तकृत्वः पिबेन्मूत्रविकारघ्नं संसृष्टं परिस्स्रुतम् । तैलमात्रया ॥ ४४ ॥

नलाश्मभेददर्भेक्षु-त्रपुसैर्वारुबीजकान् क्षीरे परिभृतान् तत्र पिबेत् सर्पिः समायुतान् ॥ ४५ ॥

पाटल्या यावशूकाच्च पारिभद्रात् तिलादपि । क्षारोदकेन मतिमान् त्वगेलोषणचूर्णकम् । पिबेद् गुडेन मिश्रं वा लिह्याल्लेहान् पृथक् पृथक् ॥ ४६ ॥

The ashes of burnt Patala wood, which are efficacious in relieving all sorts of urinary troubles, should be strained seven times in succession (the manner of Kshara preparation) and taken with a small quantity of oil. In a similar way a paste of Nala, Iksu, Darbha, Asmabheda and the seeds of Trapusa and Ervaruka, should be duly washed in milk and filtered and taken in combination with clarified butter. Powders of Tvak, Ela and Tri-katu should be taken by the intelligent one in combination with the alkaline solution of the ashes of Patala,

1. Dalhana explains Krouncasthi as bones of a Krounca bird, but we are not inclined to accept this explanation.

2. Some explain “Kokilaksaka-tandula” as meaning Kokilaksa and Tandula (rice) which may also be accepted.

3. “Sata-parva” may mean Durva-grass or bamboo.

Yava-Kshara, Paribhadra and Tila. Lambatives made of the powders of the above-mentioned drugs should be separately licked with treacle. 44-46.

अत ऊर्ध्वं प्रवक्ष्यामि मूत्रदोषे क्रमं हितम् ॥ ४७ ॥

स्नेहस्वेदोपपन्नानां हितं तेषु विरेचनम् । ततः संशुद्धदेहानां हिताश्चोत्तरवस्तयः ॥ ४८ ॥

Now I shall describe the measures which are beneficial in Mutradosa (urinary defects). Purgatives should be administered to a patient after the due appliation of Sneha and Sveda. Utta-bastis should be injected after he has been duly purged. 47-48.

स्त्रीणामतिप्रसङ्गेन शोणितं यस्य सिच्यते । मथुनोपरमस्तस्य बृंहणश्च विधिः स्मृतः ॥ ४९ ॥

ताम्रचूडवसातैलं हितञ्चोत्तरबस्तिषु । विधानं तस्य पूर्वं हि व्यासतः परिकीर्तितम् ॥ ५० ॥

Sexual intercourse should be refrained by a person afflicted with a discharge of blood from the urethra owing to sexual excesses, and he should be treated with remedies which are constructive tonics (e.g., meat-soup, milk, clarified butter’ etc.) Uttara bastis should be applied into the urethra, under the circumstances, with cock’s lard and with oil, the process of applying them has already been elaborately described. (See Chikitsa, XXVII). 49-50.

क्षौद्रार्धपात्रं दत्त्वा च पात्रन्तु क्षीरसर्पिषः । शर्करायाश्च चूर्णञ्च द्राक्षाचूर्णञ्च तत्समम् ॥ ५१ ॥

तथैवेक्षुरकस्य च । स्वयंगुप्ताफलञ्चैव पिप्पलीचूर्णसंयुक्तमर्धभागं प्रकल्पयेत् ॥ ५२ ॥

तदैकध्यं समानीय खजेनाभिप्रमन्थयेत् । तस्य पाणितलं चूर्णं लीढ्वा क्षीरं ततः पिबेत् ॥ ५३॥

1. Dalhana says that Kartika does not read this, in as much as this would increase the number originally mentioned, as also because this case has already been mentioned in Prameha. But according to Jejjata, this is mentioned here to make the case more clear.

एतत् सर्पिः प्रयुञ्जानः शुद्धदेहो नरः सदा । मूत्रदोषान् जयेत् सर्वानन्ययोगैः सुदुर्जयान् ॥ ५४॥

जयेच्छोणितदोषांश्च बन्ध्या गर्भं लभेत च । नारी चैतत् प्रयुञ्जाना योनिदोषात् प्रमुच्यते ॥ ५५ ॥

Half a Patra measure of honey, one Patra measure of clarified butter churned from milk (Ksira-sarpis) and equal parts of sugar, and powdered Draksa atmagupta-seed, Iksuraka and Pippali, together weighing one half part (i.e. half of half a Patra) should be thoroughly mixed by stirring the compound with a laddle. A Pani – tala (two tolas) measure of this compound should be licked, followed by draughts of milk. By using this Ghrita, a man is relieved of all injurious principles of his body, and gets rid of distressing and dreadful urinary troubles which cannot otherwise be easily cured by any other remedy. It acts as an excellent blood-purifier, and by using it, even a barren woman may get rid of her sterility and of all other vaginal and uterine complaints which usually obstruct or retard conception in females. 51-55.

बलाकोलास्थि मधुकं वदंष्ट्राऽथ शतावरी । मृणालञ्च कशेरुश्च बीजानीक्षुरकस्य च ॥५६॥ सहस्त्रवीर्यांऽशुमती पयस्या सह कालया | शृगालविन्नाऽतिबला बृंहणीयो गणस्तथा ॥ ५७ ॥ एतानि समभागानि मतिमान् सह साधयेत् । चतुर्गुणेन पयसा गुडस्य तुलया सह ॥ ५८ ॥ द्रोणावशिष्टं तत् पूतं पचेत् तेन घृताढकम् । तत् सिद्धं कलशे स्थाप्यं क्षौद्रप्रस्थेन संयुतम् ॥ ५९ ॥ सर्पिरेतत् प्रयुञ्जानो मूत्रदोषात् प्रमुच्यते ॥ ६० ॥ Equal parts of Bala, stones of Kola-fruits, Yasti-Svadanstra (Goksura), Satavari, Mrnala ( lotus-stem), Kaseru, madhu, seeds of Iksuraka, Sahasra-virya (Durba), Amsumati (Sala-parni), Payasya (Vidari ), Kala, Srgalavinna ( PrSniparni), Ati bala and the drugs of the Brmhaniya (Kakolyadi) group should be duly boiled with four times of water of their combined weight and a Tula masure of treacle. When only a Drona measure of water would remain, it should be taken down and strained through a piece of linen. It should then be duly cooked with an Adhaka measure of clarified butter. The medicated Ghrita (thus prepared) with a Prastha measure of honey added to it (when cooled) should be kept in an earthen pitcher. By using this medicated Ghrita, one would be cured of all urinary troubles. 56-60.

1. Dalhana’s reading here evidently is ‘Ksira-sarpishah’, but according to a variant the reading would be “Ksira-sarpishu” i.e. milk and clarified butter ( taken together). The latter reading has the support of Cakrupani and Vrnda who, however, read these lines in a different way and prescribe the drugs in somewhat different proportions. The former reading ‘Ksira-sarpishah’ with the sixth case-ending is, however, more grammatical.

तुगाक्षीर्याश्व चूर्णानि शर्करायास्तथैव च ॥ ६१ ॥ क्षौद्रेण तुल्यान्यालोड्य प्रशस्तेऽहनि लेहयेत् । तस्य खादेद्यथाशक्ति मात्रां क्षीरं ततः पिबेत् ॥ ६२ ॥ शुक्रदोषान् जयेन्मर्त्यः प्राश्य सम्यक् सुयन्त्रितः । व्यवायक्षीणरेतास्तु सद्यः संलभते सुखम् ॥ ६३ ॥ ओजस्वी बलवान मर्त्यः पिबन्नेव च हृष्यति ॥ ६४ ॥

Powder of Tuga-ksiri and sugar should be mixed together with honey and licked on an auspicious day according to the digesting capacity of the patient and a draught of milk should then be taken. By its use the patient would be able to conquer all seminal troubles if he observes a perfect continence. One whose semen has been wasted by sexual excesses would get instantaneous relief; and a man who is possessed of vigour (ojas) and strength would be refreshed and cheerful. 61-64.

चित्रक: सारिवा चैव बला कालानुसारिवा ॥ ६५ ॥ द्राक्षा विशाला पिप्पल्यस्तथा चित्रफला भवेत् । तथैव मधुकं पथ्यां दद्यादामलकानि च ॥६६॥ घृताढकं पचेदेभिः कल्कैः कर्षसमन्वितैः । क्षीरद्रोणे जलद्रोणे परिस्स्रुतञ्चैव तत्सिद्धमवतारयेत् ॥ ६७ ॥ शर्कराप्रस्थसंयुतम् । शीतं तुगाक्षीर्याश्च तत् सर्वं मतिमान् परिमिश्रयेत् ॥ ६८ ॥ ततो मितं पिबेत् काले यथादोषं यथाबलम् । वातरेताः श्लेष्मरेताः पित्तरेतास्तु यो भवेत् ॥ ६९ ॥ रक्तरेताः ग्रन्थिरेताः पिबेदिच्छन्नरोगताम् । जीवनीयञ्च वृष्यञ्च सर्पिरेतद् बलावहम् ॥ ७० ॥ प्रज्ञाहितञ्च धन्यञ्च सर्वरोगापहं शिवम् । सर्पिरेतत् प्रयुञ्जाना स्त्री गर्भं लभतेऽचिरात् ॥ ७९ ॥ असृग्दोषाञ्जयेच्चापि योनिदोषांश्च संहतान् । मूत्रदोषेषु सर्वेषु कुर्यादेतच्चिकित्सितम् ॥ ७२ ॥

Paste of Chitraka, Sariva, Bala, Kalanusariva, Draksha, Visala, Pippali, Citraphala, Yastimadhu, Pathya and Amalaka each weighing one Karsa should be boiled in one Adhaka measure of clarified butter mixedtogether with one Drona measure of milk and water each. When the eutire quality of milk and water is evaparated the compound should be taken down and kept it be cooled. When the compound becomes cold it should be strained through a piece of linen. Then a prastha measure each of Sugar and Tuga Kohiri should be mixed be mixed in the compound. This Ghrita should be taken in proper dose and at a paper time according to the strangth of the Dosas and patient as well. This Ghrita removes diseases like Vata Reta, Slesmareta, Pitta Reta, Rakta Reta and Granthi Reta. This Ghrita is Jeevaniya (increases the life span), Vrsya (Aphrodiasic), imparts to the user, efficacious for increasing intellect, auspicious and destroeys all sorts of siseases. By use of this Ghrita sterile woman conceives shortly. This also conquers all sorts of Rakta Dosas and Vaginal disorders. This may be used to cure all sorts of urinary disorders. इति सुश्रुत-संहितायामुत्तरतन्त्रे मूत्राघातप्रतिषेधव्याख्यानामा

ष्टपञ्चाशत्तमोऽध्यायः ॥ ५८ ॥

Thus ends the fifty-eight chapter in the Uttara-Tantra of the Susrata Samhita which deals with the symptoms and treatment of the suppression of urine (Mutraghata).
